Dániel Simonyi

Dániel Simonyi is an attorney working for a U.S.-based law firm in Hungary.  His foreign policy interests include transatlantic relations and European Union (EU) politics.

Simonyi holds law degrees from the Flemish Free University in Brussels and Eötvös Lóránd University in Budapest.  He is a specialist on EU law, with a particular focus on state aid.  

After spending 11 years in Belgium, Simonyi returned to Hungary in 2003.  There, he joined the legal department of the National Development Office - the institution that oversaw the distribution of EU funds.  A year later, he became a member of the cabinet of the Minister of European Affairs, for whom he managed international and diplomatic relations.  In 2006, Simonyi worked for two months in the Washington, D.C. office of Congressman Tom Lantos - then ranking member of the U.S. House of Representatives International Relations Committee.  Later, Mr. Simonyi joined the private equity department of the Washington, D.C. office of Weil, Gotshal and Manges LLP.  He currently works at the Budapest Office of the firm.  Simonyi speaks Hungarian, English, Dutch and French.
