Michael Williams

Michael Williams is a lecturer in International Relations at Royal Holloway, University of London and the Head of the Transatlantic Programme at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies in London. Educated at the universities of Hamburg, Berlin, Moscow and London, he holds a MA with distinction in European Politics from the Humboldt Universitaet zu Berlin in Germany and a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics. He speaks fluent German and basic Russian.

Michael specializes in international security issues, with a focus on transatlantic relations. He is the co-editor of Power in World Politics (Routledge 2007) and the author of NATO, Security and Risk Management: From Kosovo to Khandahar (Routledge 2008). He has produced research and analysis for various organizations such as the U.S. Department of Defence, UK Ministry of Defence, Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and NATO Allied Command Transformation. Michael is a regular contributor to international news outlets such as BBC World and CNN International and has published commentary in numerous international dailies.
