CEPA Salon at the Latvian Embassy

The CEPA Salon was held in cooperation with the Latvian Embassy in Washington, DC on Thursday, May 9. The discussion featured an introduction and welcome from host H.E. Andris Teikmanis, Ambassador of Latvia, and insights from Latvian Minister of Defense Dr. Artis Pabriks and CEPA President Peter B. Doran on the security priorities for the alliance moving forward. The conversation was moderated by CEPA Executive Vice President Réka Szemerkényi.

The Baltic states remain critical pieces of NATO security and have made massive strides in contributing to collective deterrence. Latvia's investment in its own defense and strengthening its resilience is a testament to Riga's dedication to actively combating threats from the East.  NATO allies, including the United States, have much to learn from these lessons. At the CEPA Salon, the Latvian Minister of Defense Dr. Artis Pabriks provided his perspective on the challenges Riga faces and the role the Alliance should take in defending its frontline. CEPA's Peter Doran discussed U.S. security priorities and the most recent changes in the security environment across the broader Eastern Flank. This exclusive event facilitated candid conversations and networking opportunities for attendees. Participants included Congressional staff, senior diplomats of European Embassies, and experts from the Center for European Policy Analysis.

Each month, the CEPA Salon visits a different European Embassy. These salon-styled discussions offer an opportunity to learn about Europe’s perspectives and challenges through the lens of U.S. legislative and foreign policy priorities. During this informal evening session, participants exchange views and network with leading experts and diplomats.
