Assessing Allied Security

An experts roundtable with LTG Ben Hodges

The Center for European Policy Analysis held an expert's roundtable to assess Allied security ahead of the NATO summit in Brussels. The event featured analysis from LTG Ben Hodges, CEPA's Pershing Chair in Security Studies, and was moderated by CEPA Senior Fellow Janusz Bugajski with insight from CEPA President Peter B. Doran.

The clock is ticking on the upcoming NATO Summit. Only, what should be on the agenda in Brussels? Alliance members are looking to increase their capabilities and burden-sharing as they face dangers across multiple frontiers. From pressing topics like cross-border mobility, to lessons learned from Zapad 2017, and ways to better deter peer competitors, the United States and its allies could benefit from a fresh look at new responses and strategies.

During his service as Commander of U.S. Army Europe, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges was on the frontlines of an alliance-wide effort to better defend Europe through initiatives like NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence. Now as the Pershing Chair in Security Studies at CEPA, LTG Hodges will provide his firsthand reflections on the challenges facing Europe in 2018—and what can be done to make the Alliance safer and more secure.
